West Marine's 28 year history started with
selling "Top Quality Rope at Factory Prices". West Coast Ropes, as we
were known then, was located in a garage, in Sunnyvale, CA, and sold
white nylon rope by mail order. Occasionally, adventuresome customers
would even drop by to pick up rope in person. It is fitting that rope,
one of civilization's oldest products and one product that every boat
requires as a dock or anchor line, was our first product.
